Yes, we're called the Innovative Technology Center, but we're all about
teaching and learning. Developing and implementing innovative strategies
to enhance teaching and learning is our mission. The technologies we
employ are tools that support our mission. Providing the best, most
effective educational environment possible is the ultimate goal.
Since 1996, the Innovative Technology Center has worked with faculty and
students from every college and department on campus to design and deliver
instructional materials, resources and strategies that help teachers teach
and students learn. From designing basic course Web sites to implementing a comprehensive Course Management System
(Blackboard/Online@UT), from developing standalone learning modules to
supporting totally wireless courses, from providing online testing to
supporting Personal Response Systems (clickers) in the classroom, from
training faculty to using technology enhanced classrooms to developing
graphical, audio and video resources, we are continuously researching,
testing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning technologies,
strategies and outcomes.
Simply put, our mission is to provide teachers with the best tools for
teaching, and learners with the best tools for learning. At the ITC, we
believe that the role of technology in education is to serve the
instructional objectives of teachers and the learning activities and
efforts of students. Our goal is to ensure that teachers and learners have
the best tools available, and the skill to use them effectively.
Yes, we're called the Innovative Technology Center, but if you want to
think of us as the Innovative Teaching and Learning Center, we won't mind a
bit. In fact, we'll take it as quite a compliment.
