Technical Support
The Innovative Technology Center (ITC) at the University of Tennessee (Knoxville campus) has an opening for a Student Assistant to provide Technology Support services for the ITC labs, classroom, staff, and clients.
Qualifications
- Must be an enrolled undergraduate student in good academic standing
- Must be able to work 10 to 20 hours/week (flexible schedule to accommodate classes)
- Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work cooperatively
- Must possess good written and oral communication skills
- Must be able to provide at least three references
Position requires familiarity with common PC and Mac operating systems, the ability to learn new software applications quickly, and the ability to perform the following routine service and maintenance tasks:
Software
- Format and rebuild disk drives
- Perform periodic system backups, disk imaging, and classroom / lab disk rebuilds
- Provide PC and Mac OS installation, troubleshooting, and upgrade support
- Provide PC and Mac application installation, troubleshooting, and upgrade support
- Create system CDs
Hardware (Mac and PC)
- Install computers and peripherals (drives, sound and video cards, scanners, printers, RAM, etc.)
- Recognize and troubleshoot problems
- Upgrade and replace equipment
General
- Work cooperatively as a member of a team
- Assist in moving, removing, and replacing furniture and other related heavy items
- Show initiative: recognize and perform necessary tasks
- Use intuition: may need to troubleshoot problems with incomplete or inaccurate information
- Display resourcefulness: apply knowledge and skills to problem-solving
- Assist with inventory management
- Assist with office maintenance and organization
- Perform other duties as assigned by ITC management team or designee
