Faculty First - 2000 Invitation to Propose
The Office for Research and Information Technology's Innovative
Technology Center (ITC) invited applications from full-time faculty
interested in receiving design and development help in reshaping a
course or course component to enhance teaching through technology. We
are looking for faculty who are willing to work with the ITC staff to
enhance a course with traditional or emerging technologies.
Electronic application is now available at this web site.
What's in in for me?
The primary focus of the Faculty First Program is development and
technical assistance. You offer the ideas and serve as subject matter
expert, and we will do the development for you, incorporating the
appropriate technology into your course. Examples of ways we will assist
program recipients include, but are not limited to, developing course
materials for use within Blackboard (CourseInfo), though a Web site, or
on a CD-ROM.
Another benefit of the Faculty First Program is regular consultations
throughout the development process with the creative and technical staff
of the ITC. We have graphic designers, instructional designers, and
programmers to make your ideas become a reality and enhance learning for
your students.
If you need to talk through your ideas, you can schedule a one-on-one
consultation with an ITC staff member before submitting your proposal.
Call Jean Derco at 865-974-9551 or email jderco@utk.edu.
What Are the Requirements for Eligibility?
Full-time faculty with instructor rank or above are eligible to apply.
Experts, novices, and nonusers of technology are all encouraged to
participate. Previous Hewlett Fellowship and other ITC technology grant
recipients are eligible to apply; so are recipients of the Faculty
Desktop Refresh Program.
What's the Deadline?
The deadline for submission is February 5, 2000.
You can apply using the electronic application
(If you need help with this process, please call 974-9670.)
A statement of support from each applicant's department/unit head must
be submitted to itc@tennessee.edu, faxed to 865-974-2050, or mailed to
2415 Dunford Hall by February 5, 2000.
Reshaped courses must be completed by May 31, 2000. Summarized results
of student evaluations need to be submitted to the ITC after your course
is implemented. (The ITC will supply an electronic evaluation form that
you may use or edit.) You will also be required to submit a final
report that provides the following information:
- Course title and brief description
- Number of students affected
- Semesters the course was/is taught
- How you enhanced the course with technology and the results
- What you would still like to accomplish (post-project implementation)
- Suggestions for future ITC funding programs
- The URL to the course and/or screen shots
