“Utilizing Blackboard in Psychology 110”

Through the Blackboard system, the proposed project, Get Psyched, in Introductory Psychology (Psychology 110) will provide students with an opportunity to post examples and questions about the concepts we discuss in class, including issues of multicultural diversity, prejudice, human development, and psychological problems. Students will be allowed to read, question, and comment on the postings of their classmates, creating an interactive opportunity that is often difficult in large lecture courses. In this way, students will be encouraged to actively engage with the course material by thinking and writing about it outside of class and they will also have opportunity to learn from the insights and experiences of their classmates in an interactive, online environment.

“Psychology Online: An Exam Review (Psych Review)”

At the University of Tennessee, Psychology 110 is a course that fulfills a General Education core requirement for incoming freshmen. Class enrollment consists of over 2200 students in 9 sections of around 250 students per section taught by a GTA. The auditoriums allow little group collaboration and peer interaction. This project will allow students to participate in small group exam review sessions in a chat room format via Blackboard. Psychology is a course in which the vast array of topics and ideas can easily overwhelm students. The online forum, created by PsychReview, would allow students to come together in groups and help one another learn and understand the material in depth, in an active, collaborative, learning environment. The Internet is an ideal location for sharing ideas and expanding knowledge, particularly when it comes to comprehending course content.

“Improving Aural Comprehension in Spanish Through Realia-Based Content”

Spanish 305 is a course designed for students interested in improving their communicative skills in Spanish. This project will encourage students to communicate, and students will have the opportunity to improve their aural comprehension skills through multi-media, collaboration and group-based tools accessed through Online@UT. Through multimedia tools in Blackboard, including the Pronto and Wimba Voice Boards, and realia-based content, students will get more exposure to the target language.
